Evolúciós játékok statisztikus fizikája = Statistical physics of evolutionary games
A stratégiák (biológiai fajok) számának növelésével ezen modell-családon belül olyan stratégia-társulások kialakulását vizsgáltuk, amelyek versengése alapvetően befolyásolja a végső (esetenként önszervező) állapot kialakulását. | We have studied evolutionary games on lattices and graphs. To increase our knowledge in this progressively developing area we wrote a review paper entitled ""Evolutionary games on graphs"" published in Physics Reports. For the evolutionary Prisoner's Dilemma games, describing the emergence of altruism among selfish individuals of a society, we have evaluated phase diagrams characterizing the effect of payoffs, noise, and connectivity structure on the cooperative behavior. We could demonstrate that differences in the teaching activity of individuals during the strategy adoption process can also support the maintenance of cooperation. The investigation of the evolutionary Rock-Paper-Scissors game on different networks helped us to understand some basic features yielding self-organizing patterns or global oscillations. Increasing the number of strategies (species) in these types of spatial models we have found several mechanisms resulting in the formation of privileged associations whose competition determines the final (sometimes self-organizing) state of the evolutionary process. Finally, we developed a model to describe the evolution of concepts in languages considered as Nash equilibria of a game
Erősen korrelált alacsony dimenziós rendszerek elméleti vizsgálata = Theoretical study of strongly correlated low-dimensional systems
| We have studied the properties of low-dimensional strongly correlated systems analytically, using the renormalization group approach and the Bethe hypothesis as well as numerically with the density-matrix renormalization-group algorithm. We have shown that the quantum information entropy is a good quantity to study when the location of a quantum critical point or the properties of the phases have to be determined. The entropy of neighboring sites exhibits a jump or discontinuity at the transition, while oscillations in the length dependence of the entropy of finite segments indicate soft modes or the inhomogeneity of the phase. We have constructed a general model to describe the neutral-ionic transition in charge-transfer salts, and pointed out that the transition is either of first order or takes place in two steps, with an intermediate dimerized phase. We have studied the metal-insulator transition in the SU(n) symmetric generalization of the Hubbard model. We have shown that this system behaves similarly to the half-filled usual Hubbard chain if the band is 1/n-filled. The half-filled models behave differently, they are dimerized for n>2 due to the coupling of the charge and spin modes, which all become gapped. For generic fillings, Luttinger liquid behavior is found. When such chains are coupled together, Luttinger liquid behavior is still possible for appropriate choices of the couplings, but such a state cannot exist if the chains are Hubbard like
Logarithmic delocalization of end spins in the S=3/2 antiferromagnetic Heisenberg chain
Using the DMRG method we calculate the surface spin correlation function,
, in the spin antiferromagnetic Heisenberg
chain. For comparison we also investigate the chain with S=1 impurity
end spins and the S=1 chain. In the half-integer spin models the end-to-end
correlations are found to decay to zero logarithmically, , with . We find no surface order, in clear contrast with
the behavior of the S=1 chain, where exponentially localized end spins induce
finite surface correlations. The lack of surface order implies that end spins
do not exist in the strict sense. However, the system possesses a
logarithmically weakly delocalizing boundary excitation, which, for any chain
lengths attainable numerically or even experimentally, creates the illusion of
an end spin. This mode is responsible for the first gap, which vanishes
asymptotically as , where is the
sound velocity and is the logarithmic decay exponent. For the half-integer
spin models our results on the surface correlations and on the first gap
support universality. Those for the second gap are less conclusive, due to
strong higher-order corrections.Comment: 10 pages, 8 figure
Kvantumos fázisátalakulások alacsony dimenziós mágneses és fermionrendszerekben = Quantum phase transitions in low-dimensional magnetic and fermionic systems
A magas spinű rendszerekben újfajta, egzotikus szuperfolyékony fázisok megjelenésére mutattunk rá mágnesesen polarizáció jelenlétében, és javaslatot tettünk annak kísérleti megfigyelhetőségére ultrahideg atomok rendszerében. A vezetési elektronok közötti korrelációkat is tartalmazó periodikus Anderson-Hubbard-modell esetén a Hubbard-fizika (Mott-átalakulás) és a Kondo-fizika (nehézfermionos viselkedés) versengésében határoztuk meg a kölcsönhatások szerepét. A Bethe-feltevéssel egzaktul megoldható rendszerekre analitikusan levezettük a szabadenergiához adódó vezető korrekciókat. | The physics of low-dimensional magnetic and fermionic systems is in the forefront of research in solid state physics. During the course of this project, we studied the physical properties of such systems both analytically and numerically, investing a lot of effort in the algorithmic development of the density-matrix renormalization-group (DMRG) method, using the concepts of quantum information theory. This allowed us, by combining DMRG with Wilson's numerical RG procedure, to extend the method to impurity problems. Following our research plan, we determined the phase diagram of various models, such as spin ladders, generalized Hubbard models and SU(n) symmetric models, and studied the quantum phase transitions in these systems. We have pointed out the possibility of exotic superfluid phases in magnetically polarized high-spin systems, and proposed experiments for their observation in ultracold atomic gases. We have studied the competition of Hubbard physics (Mott transition) and Kondo physics (heavy-fermion behavior) in extended periodic Anderson-Hubbard models, where correlations between conduction electrons and the interaction between conduction and localized electrons are taken into account. We have also determined the leading corrections to the free energy of exactly integrable systems
Commensurate and incommensurate correlations in Haldane gap antiferromagnets
We analyze the onset of incommensurabilities around the VBS point of the S=1
bilinear-biquadratic model. We propose a simple effective field theory which is
capable of reproducing all known properties of the commensurate-incommensurate
transition at the disorder point . Moreover, the theory
predicts another special point , distinct from the VBS
point, where the Haldane gap behaves singularly. The ground state energy
density is an analytic function of the model parameters everywhere, thus we do
not have phase transitions in the conventional sense.Comment: 8 pages, 2 figures, to appear in PR
Propagation failure of traveling waves in a discrete bistable medium
Propagation failure (pinning) of traveling waves is studied in a discrete
scalar reaction-diffusion equation with a piecewise linear, bistable reaction
function. The critical points of the pinning transition, and the wavefront
profile at the onset of propagation are calculated exactly. The scaling of the
wave speed near the transition, and the leading corrections to the front shape
are also determined. We find that the speed vanishes logarithmically close to
the critical point, thus the model belongs to a different universality class
than the standard Nagumo model, defined with a smooth, polynomial reaction
function.Comment: 8 pages, 6 eps figures, to appear in Physica
Novel massless phase of Haldane-gap antiferromagnets in magnetic field
The behavior of Haldane-gap antiferromagnets in strong magnetic field is not
universal. While the low-energy physics of the conventional 1D spin-1
Heisenberg model in its magnetized regime is described by one incommensurate
soft mode, other systems with somewhat perturbed coupling constants can possess
two characteristic soft modes in a certain range of the field strength. Such a
{\em two}-component Lutinger liquid phase is realised above the massive
Haldane-gap phase, and in general above any massive nonmagnetic phase, when the
ground state exhibits short range incommensurate fluctuations already in the
absence of the field.Comment: 4 pages, 2 eps figures, to appear in Phys Rev B: Rapid Communication
The phase diagram of magnetic ladders constructed from a composite-spin model
White's density matrix renormalization group ({DMRG}) method has been applied
to an composite-spin model, which can also be considered as a
two-leg ladder model. By appropriate choices of the coupling constants this
model allows not only to study how the gap is opened around the gapless
integrable models, but also to interpolate continuously between models with
different spin lengths. We have found indications for the existence of several
different massive phases.Comment: 30 pages, 8 Postscript figure
Luttinger liquid behavior in spin chains with a magnetic field
Antiferromagnetic Heisenberg spin chains in a sufficiently strong magnetic
field are Luttinger liquids, whose parameters depend on the actual
magnetization of the chain. Here we present precise numerical estimates of the
Luttinger liquid dressed charge , which determines the critical exponents,
by calculating the magnetization and quadrupole operator profiles for
and S=1 chains using the density matrix renormalization group method. Critical
amplitudes and the scattering length at the chain ends are also determined.
Although both systems are Luttinger liquids the characteristic parameters
differ considerably.Comment: Final version, 6 pages, 6 EPS figure
Evolutionary games on graphs
Game theory is one of the key paradigms behind many scientific disciplines
from biology to behavioral sciences to economics. In its evolutionary form and
especially when the interacting agents are linked in a specific social network
the underlying solution concepts and methods are very similar to those applied
in non-equilibrium statistical physics. This review gives a tutorial-type
overview of the field for physicists. The first three sections introduce the
necessary background in classical and evolutionary game theory from the basic
definitions to the most important results. The fourth section surveys the
topological complications implied by non-mean-field-type social network
structures in general. The last three sections discuss in detail the dynamic
behavior of three prominent classes of models: the Prisoner's Dilemma, the
Rock-Scissors-Paper game, and Competing Associations. The major theme of the
review is in what sense and how the graph structure of interactions can modify
and enrich the picture of long term behavioral patterns emerging in
evolutionary games.Comment: Review, final version, 133 pages, 65 figure
